Lori’s Example: Kai’s half-size fingers, chubby, small, with fingernails too long because he will not sit still long enough to clip them. He works them busily, digging them like burrowing animals into his cheerios, reveling in the textures as he grins up at me. The arctic ocean is a heart, beating ceaselessly with treasures locked deep in the ice. I look at my treasure and say, “Kai, what are you doing with your breakfast?” Eyes shining like a hole in the ice lit by moonlight, fingers wriggling like fat seals, he pipes, “Mama...BABY SHARK! Chee-wee-os.”
